The need.

Legal professionals want to use AI without depending on outside players or losing control of their data. They need a common trust framework to share legal data and AI services.

The Legal Data Space is this European framework: organisations publish, discover and use legal data and AI services while keeping control of their data and their rules. Its governance is twofold: a digital commons run by the Droit.org association, and an operating company created in 2025, backed by LegalTech founders and major groups including Sopra Steria and Lexbase.

Onecub’s role.

  • Preparatory phase: discovery, flagship use cases, value model.
  • Strategy and architecture of data and AI services; standards and federation with other data spaces.
  • Legal and business frameworks: rulebooks, policies, contracts.
  • Community and funding: recruiting participants, spotting calls and taking part in proposals.
  • Identity: LegalProConnect, the wallet for legal organisations.

Legal Data Space: looking back on its founding year, 2025

A look back at 2025 (2 min 33, in French), shared by the Legal Data Space on 2 January 2026.

Looking back on the founding year.

Ideation in November 2024, co-design in May 2025, the 18 June call with the Conseil national des barreaux for the sovereignty of legal AI, the first prototype demo and the founding general meeting of the company in July, the start of European work in September: the founding year, told by the Legal Data Space.

Law firms (CMS Francis Lefebvre, Fidal, Deloitte Avocats), corporates (BPCE, SNCF, Allianz), professional bodies (CNB, ECLA, ELTA) and LegalTech start-ups (Doctrine, Jimini AI, Recital AI) work together to identify priority use cases: compliance, contract lifecycle, mergers and acquisitions, human resources.

Technology serving the rules.

Visions provides the collaboration platform (connectors, catalogues, rulebooks, machine-readable contracts); Prometheus-X and EDC connectors ensure interoperability with EONA-X. Gen4Legal, the agentic AI for law, is built on Sopra Steria’s IAka and runs on SecNumCloud-qualified OVHcloud infrastructure.

Where is the project?

Officially launched in November 2025, the Legal Data Space joined Gaia-X in 2026. In October 2026, the Conseil national des barreaux presented Avocat+, a sovereign legal AI platform built with the Legal Data Space for France’s 79,000 lawyers; data sharing runs on Data Contract, the Legal Data Space’s solution.
